Momo Challenge

Published: March 1, 2019

Information from Superintendent Christopher Winchell regarding the Momo Challenge and internet safety.

Dear UCCCJSD Families,

I hope this note finds you all very well!

In our continued commitment to keep our students and community as safe as possible, we wanted to pass some information along to you about something circulating the internet known as the “MOMO Challenge.” Many of you may already be aware of this inappropriate challenge as it has been around for some time. However, recent “hacking” has taken place where the MOMO Challenge has gained access to things like YouTube, YouTube Kids, and even some of the popular online games like Fortnite.

I know we all work hard to keep our kids safe from internet dangers, but due to these “hacking" efforts some of the internet activities that we all believe to be fairly safe have now been compromised and should be monitored very closely.

We are taking extra precautions here at school. Additionally, since some students have shared concerns with their teacher here at our schools about this, we wanted to also pass along information and the below link to help provide you some more information, and tips for you to use at your home.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to your student’s teacher, or building principal should you need any other assistance from us regarding this. Again, nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our students and community!

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Sincerely,

Christopher Winchell, Superintendent
